Kiwi Orchid Bark

Kiwi Orchid Bark, Bio Leaf Plant Nutrients, New ZealandWe supply Kiwi Orchid Bark to Auckland and surrounding areas.

It is a hard, clean, uniformly graded, and contains no wood by-products.

Exported worldwide, it is considered by many top orchid growers as a premium product for potting orchids. Fred Clark, Sunset Valley Orchids rates it as the best orchid bark he has used.

Produced by Hans and Anita van de Ven owners of Bark Products Taranaki Ltd, they have a custom-designed facility to manufacture high-quality bark products, i.e. all products are stored on a hard surface which ensures that the bark is clean and weed free.

Kiwi Orchid Bark is derived from renewable New Zealand pine plantations, namely Pinus Radiata.

The bark is harvested from 25 year-old trees, this allows the bark enough time to thicken and develop properly at a relatively slower rate compared to pine trees grown in warmer climates.

It is ready to use out of the bag, no soaking or washing/cleaning is required. Many orchid growers do presoak the bark and this can be an option should you wish to do so.

The bark is not composted therefore lasts from 3 to 5 years which is a great bonus for orchid growers as the orchid roots will fully develop within the bark substrate. A well developed root system is a foundation factor for good orchid growth.

Many orchid growers report that the main reason for repotting is because the orchid has outgrown its pot and needs to be repotted into a bigger pot and not because the orchid media has broken down.

Produced Locally - Used World Wide By Top Orchid Growers

Fred Clark reports that he has completed two trials of three years duration using Kiwi Orchid Bark on Cattleyas, Australian Dendrobiums and Paphiopedilums and reported the following:

  • At the end of the third year almost no visible sign of bark decay.

  • The Ph remained stable.

  • The root systems were in near perfect condition

  • Upon repotting the orchid, plants showed little setback (i.e. excellent root system) and the orchids quickly re-established themselves and continued to grow well.
