Bio Leaf K-Lite 12-1-1-10Ca-3Mg was developed to mimic the nutrient profile orchids are exposed to in their natural environment. It is a high-quality compounded formulation that contains all the macro and micronutrients (trace elements), as well as calcium and magnesium but with reduced levels of potassium and phosphorus.

Research has indicated that in nature in their natural state, orchids grow in an environment in which they are exposed to very low levels of available potassium, and they have adapted mechanisms to conserve and accumulate it. However most cultured orchids are exposed to much higher levels of potassium and as a result store excessive amounts, which accumulates in potting media. Studies have shown that excessive levels of potassium can interfere with the absorption of calcium and magnesium.

Application Rates for K-Lite 12-1-1

The application rates shown below are the suggested rates for weekly application of K-Lite.

An application rate of 75 parts per million (ppm) Nitrogen (N) per week is a good starting point for most orchids. If you do not have access to a scale, this will equate to a very slightly heaped teaspoon mixed in 10 litres (L) of water.

If you are growing orchids that require less nitrogen use 50 ppm N per week.

It is accepted that it is better to feed your orchids every time you apply water. This is similar to how orchids are fed in their natural environments. Every time it rains, nutrients are washed over the orchid roots.

If you are watering 3 times per week and you wish to feed at every watering, then divide the ppm N rate by the 3 watering’s. For example at 75 ppm N per week split by 3 watering’s, you will need to use 25 ppm N at each watering.

K-Lite is packaged into plastic tubs containing 250 gram and 500 gram tubs.

  • At 50 ppm Nitrogen, a 400 gram tub will make up 1052 litres of solution.
  • At 75 ppm Nitrogen a 500 gram tub will make up 701 litres of solution.

Hi Rick,

Back in 2016, you came to Knoxville and gave a wonderful lecture on K-Lite, and then you sent me the info. to add one rounded tes. of K-Lite to my 35 gal. fertilizer tank. ou told me it would take about 4 to 5 years to see the results, it has been four years and I am truly amazed how well my orchids are growing and blooming!!

I didn't know if the fertilizer at that strength, would be strong enough for my Vandas, but I use the same strength on everything except the Phrags, which of course require less fertilizer. My orchids have been blooming more than they ever have.

I have 21 Vandas either in bloom or spike, some of the blooming ones are hanging.The deep purple Ascod. Pine Rivers is one that I got awarded two years ago with one spike. It now has two blooming spikes and another spike in bud. I grow the Vandas in the Ali-flora clay balls with a hole on the lower side of the containers. I water them everyday when I am at home.

I have had a lot of Cats. that have bloomed this past month and many more that are in spike. I fertilize every time I water.
