Dyna-Gro K-L-N Concentrate Usage and Application Rates

  • Preparation of Cuttings: Select 3 – 6 inch cuttings from the new growth on vigorous, disease free plants.  Using a sharp knife or razor blade, sever the cutting from the parent plant by cutting through the stem at a 45° angle.  Do not use shears which crush the tissue. Place stems only in K-L-N Rooting Concentrate, diluted between 1 : 250 to 1: 750 .  (1.33 ml to 4 ml per 1 litre water). Callus formation should start in 7 – 10 days with roots soon after.
  • Soaking: (Oasis cubes, rockwool, vermiculite, sand, etc.) Soak the cutting in K-L-N diluted 4 ml per 1 litre of water) for 10 – 15 minutes then place in growing medium using nonmetallic container only and water to saturation with K-L-N diluted  between 1:375 to 1:750 (1.33 to 2.67ml per 1 litre water)   For hard to root cuttings use 4 ml per litre of water.
  • Misting: Mix at a dilution rate of 1:1 500 (0.67 ml per 1 litre water) K-L-N and include Pro-TeKt  at a dilution rate of 1:750 (1.33 ml Pro-TeKt per 1 litre water) and add to the system’s holding tank.  Keep the cuttings moist at all times.
  • Air Rooting: Dilute K-L-N at a dilution rate of 4 ml per 1 litre water.  Saturate medium and place into cut on a plant stem.  Cover with opaque plastic or foil. Keep moist with K-L-N solution until adequate roots form.
  • Transplanting & Dividing Plants: Drench newly potted or transplanted plants with a solution K-L-N and Pro-TeKt and any Dyna-Gro. For each product at a dilution rate of 1:750 (1.33 ml per 1 litre water)1 plant food per gal. of water.  Continue applications of K-L-N until the plant is established in the new medium.  This will ensure vigorous and healthy new growth.

Maintaining Root Growth for Orchids:

Use KLN Rooting Concentrate with any Dyna-Gro Nutrient Solution once a month throughout the growing season to promote new root growth. Mix at a dilution rate of 1 : 1500 (6.7 ml KLN to 10 litres of water). Do not use KLN Concentrate during periods of dormancy, or when flower initiation is desired.

Repotting Orchids:

When repotting all orchids, Dyna-Gro Liquid Grow, K-L-N, The Rooting Solution and Pro-TeKt, The Silicon Solution, should be used to promote new root growth to quickly acclimate the plant to the new medium. Any growing medium used for repotting should be prepared in advance by soaking the potting medium in a bucket of water that has 5ml of Dyna-Gro Liquid Grow or Orchid-Pro 7-8-6, 2.5 ml of Pro-TeKt and 5ml of K-L-N Rooting Solution added to each 5 litres of water. Allow to soak for a few hours or overnight if possible. The addition of soluble silicon (Pro-TeKt) helps reduce stress to the plant during transplanting and reduce losses to fungus and dehydration. Bark should be soaked in a similar solution for two to three days prior to repotting to prevent the chips from dehydrating the plant.

Bare Root Orchids:

For bare-root plants such as vandaceous orchids, Bromeliads and Tillandsia, a 1 ml. K-L-N Concentrate per 750 ml of water solution can be misted on the plants to stimulate additional root growth.
